Funny video shows the differences between two working dog breeds

People are quick to compare Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds, but owners of these dogs know that the two breeds are far from the same. The average dog lover probably knows that historically both breeds have been used as pets military and police dogs because they are highly intelligent, easy to train, and like to work. Both Belgian Malinois and and German shepherd dog also make effective guard dogs and are fiercely loyal to their caregivers and families. (My GSD is only 18 weeks old and he’s already on high alert by the time our kids are out of sight!)

However, there are some key differences between the races that can be difficult to explain to someone who has never interacted with them before. Thankfully, one TikTok personality summed it up perfectly. Content Creators Johnny Devaneys channel is devoted to dog breed imitations and he shared his comparison between a Belgian Malinois vs German Shepherd.

? Original sound – Jonny Devaney

In the video, Devaney plays two roles: a German shepherd and a Belgian Malinois in camouflage.

“What are you doing?” asks Devaney, the GSD, as the Malinois version of himself somersaults and begins to dance. The very confused German Shepherd looks on before finally telling the Malinois to “stop.” The Malinois seems to vanish into thin air, leaving the shepherd even more confused. Then the Malinois reappears on the roof of a house to continue dancing and pacing all around. The clip ends hilariously with the German Shepherd looking at the camera and saying, “That’s too much.” Then he hobbles away with a stick, a nod to the German Shepherd’s predisposition to hip problems.

Many Malinois owners have seen TikTok and been amazed by the accuracy of Devaney’s impersonation. “I wish my Belgian Malinois had a phone so I could send this to him,” one user commented. Another said they “can vouch for it” because they have four Malinois and the dogs “actually act that way.”

While some German Shepherds can have energy for days, they know when to stop. Belgian Malinois… not so much. Devaney embodies the differences between the races perfectly!
