Gemma Atkinson teaches her daughter to be kind to animals at the shelter before sharing her unusual request

Gemma Atkinson’s daughter and two dogs are already best friends, but the Hits Radio presenter has spent her Sunday teaching her daughter about a rescue center close to her heart. Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is a place Gemma used to visit regularly growing up.

And now with a public profile that has starred in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks to name a few, the soap star has continued to show his support for the Bury-based animal shelter and is the charity’s president.

On Sunday, Gemma and daughter Mia, two, go to Bleakholt, where not only dogs live, but also cats, horses and farm animals. The mother-of-one shared a video to her Instagram Story and wrote, “Took Mia to @bleakholt_animal_sanctuary today to drop off some food.”

The video showed Gemma, dressed in a white hoodie with a dark pair of Shared, and Mia, in a fluffy hoodie, outside. Right at the start, the toddler is heard saying, “We’re on Bleakholt,” before Gemma adds, “There’s a lot of animals here that need to be taken care of.”

She then asked her little girl, “Have you seen any that you like?” to which she replies, “Yeah,” before pointing to Gemma making an emotional face as she says, “The Doggy Ones!”

“That’s why you always have to be nice to animals, right?” Gemma said before adding: “Yes? Be nice to them.” Mia then asked her mom what else is here, and as her mom wound it up, Mia replied, “I want to see some cats.”

Gemma and Mia went on a trip to Bleakholt

The couple then headed off to see more animals, as Gemma wrote alongside her videos: “We saw the donkeys and rabbits and she asked why the dogs were here and not the people at home…” But then she had an unusual request.

“And in the car on the way home she asked me if we had a pig and could name her Maureen,” Gemma wrote with a series of crying, laughing emojis.

It comes after Gemma, who played Lisa Hunter on C4’s Hollyoaks and Carly Hope on ITV’s Emmerdale, shared a video of her daughter petting one of her family dogs, Ollie and Norman. Then a second photo shows the boy next to the sleeping puppy. ” Family member, best friend and guardian angel rolled into one… dogs,” Gemma captioned the post.

And it melted the hearts of the fans. @paulacoghill said: “Adorable and what a bond they have.” @karladaniellala commented: “This is so so precious and beautiful.” @peggylamb1982 wrote: “You are just the BEST part of the family aren’t you?”

@littlelynds1 replied: “They have such an amazing bond. It’s so beautiful to see.” @claresmith46 added, “That’s beautiful! Dogs are the best.”
